Montalto’s Discovery Tasting offers beginners and seasoned wine lovers alike a unique insight into the roles played by variety, site and winemaking in producing world class, award-winning, cool-climate wines.
The cool, maritime climate of the Mornington Peninsula creates the ideal growing environment for the early ripening varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, (as well as a unique cool-climate take on the classic Australian variety, Shiraz). Set in breathtaking wine room, with panoramic views overlooking Red Hill vineyards, Cellar Door team will guide you through a seated tasting of wines from current releases, and back vintages, as well as limited bottlings not available away from estate. Following your tasting, take a seat in The Piazza, where you’ll enjoy a casual, shared lunch from the seasonal menu (which showcases the best of estate-grown produce) along with a bottle of Montalto wine. We’ll also give you a bottle of Montalto wine to take home with you as a memento of your visit to Red Hill. After lunch, you are invited to explore the Montalto Sculpture Trail. Sculpture is an integral part of life at Montalto and a highlight of any visit to the estate. 1km Sculpture Trail winds through vines, along wooden boardwalks and through the wetlands and affords spectacular views of both the sculptures and the property along the way. Many of our permanent sculptures were winners of the Montalto Sculpture Prize among the most valuable private sculpture prizes in Australia.
