Greenway

Tuggeranong, of which Greenway is a suburb, might be Canberra's newest satellite town, but it is also one of the fastest growing as more and more people migrate to an area which envelopes an old, historic property whose homestead has been retained as a living link to the pre-ACT past.

The suburb also borders the third of Canberra's artificial lakes, which adds an aquatic playground to the lifestyle.

A comfortable drive takes you to Lanyon, an historic grazing property on the Murrumbidgee River. The homestead, gardens, outbuildings and adjacent gallery, which houses a collection of some of the works of celebrated painter Sidney Nolan, are all open to the public.

The foundation of the cluster of buildings which make up the Lanyon Station"s homestead complex are the dairy, workers" barracks, storerooms and kitchen which were built by convict labour from local stone and wood in the 1820s. The homestead was built later in 1859 and then added to in 1905. A restoration of the interior of the homestead was started in 2001.
