Wallerawang

Just 11km from Lithgow on the western side of the Blue Mountains, Wallerawang sits on the banks of Lake Wallace in the centre of a coal mining district that is dominated, in an architectural sense, by the big and physically-impressive Wallerawang power station. The major local city of Lithgow is most famous for the Zig Zig Railway, built in 1869, which winds its way precariously down from the heights of the Blue Mountains escarpment, and for the Lithgow Small Arms factory which manufactured guns for the two great wars and for generations of Australians at peace. In Main Street, Wallerawang, St John's Church is of historic interest as it was designed by Edmond Blackett Jnr and built in 1883 for the Barton Family who owned a large estate. The Wallerawang Sailing Club offers free 'sailing experiences' to anyone who turns up at their clubhouse on Lake Wallace any Sunday. You'll find them by turning off the Great Western Highway at the power station.
