Hendra
Hendra takes its name from a suburb in the south coast English town of Truro, but in truth there is more of Newmarket than Cornwall in this northern corner of Brisbane.
Hendra, in fact, is the one part of the city where you are more likely to wake to the sound of clattering hooves than the cawing of crows.
Hendra is the hub around which the Brisbane thoroughbred racing industry revolves, with most of the leading trainers stabling their horses in the suburb which sits cheek by jowl with both Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses.
Rather than detracting from the lifestyle, the horse connection adds to the charm of Hendra, whose notable residents include the Roman Catholic Archbishop.
Beirne Park, with its children"s playground, shelter and barbecues is in the dead centre of the suburb and Brisbane"s extensive network of cycleways runs through the length of Hendra which is within a 10-minute drive of the International Airport.
