Mount Larcom

About 32km north of Gladstone, Mount Larcom relies mainly on fruit and tomato cultivation for its prosperity. Sleepy little town that it is, Mt Larcom is the only stop between Rockhampton and Gladstone for travellers aboard Queensland Rail"s fastest conveyance, the Tilt Train which links Brisbane and Rockie.

Road travellers will be encouraged to stop and enjoy the eye-catching scenery as the Bruce Highway winds its way through the mountain and scrub landscape on the journey from north from Gladstone to Mt Larcom.

A bustling port and a major gateway to the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef, Gladstone is a prime tourist destination from which you can make sorties to stunning resorts the likes of Tannum Sands, which has a beautiful beach and is linked by bridge to Boyne Island.

This general area is renowned for its fishing and seafood, especially mud crabs and prawns. One of Australia's most important yacht races - the Brisbane to Gladstone blue water classic - finishes in a creek at the bottom of Gladstone's main street at Easter every year.
