Onslow

Onslow is located 1,386 kilometres north of Perth. The town is blessed by its proximity to the ocean and the Ashburton River, just a half hour drive away. Have a swim or enjoy the fishing and mud crabbing at Five Mile Pool and Three Mile Pool, where you can set up camp under the stars for the night. Near the mouth of the Ashburton, discover the ruins of Old Onslow where historic buildings, including the gaol and courthouse, can still be seen. For the fishermen among us, there is plenty of opportunity to catch a feed in Onslow. Throw in a line at the groyne or try Four Mile Creek. Cruise the many creek systems in a boat or explore the many islands near Onslow. Visit the Mackerel Islands, often described as a fisherman's paradise. There are 10 islands located 23 kilometres off the coast. Thevenard Island, a six kilometre long coral atoll, boasts perfect white beaches, abundant fish, and spectacular coral for snorkelling. Onslow's solar salt field is constructed on tidal salt flats surrounding the town. The 1.3 kilometre jetty, 3.5 kilometre conveyor belt and stacker equipment provide spectacular viewing when lit up at night; join a tour from the visitor centre (subject to season and numbers so please check). The Onslow Visitor Centre is located in the Goods Shed Museum. This historic building originally came from the Old Onslow townsite and is full of memorabilia and relics from days gone by. It is the place to visit for more information about the town and surrounding areas or to purchase souvenirs. A variety of accommodation is available in Onslow ranging from camping and caravan parks to chalets, hotel and motel style accommodation, along with a varirty of dining options.
