Flinders

Set on the Mornington Peninsula headland that defines the point where Western Port meets Bass Strait, Flinders offers unsurpassed views of Phillip Island and is a bridge between the sea and hinterland parks and wineries.

It is the very model of a modern resort village: surf and a safe swimming beach, great fishing and diving, delicious and diverse dining, antique and curio shops, comfortable accommodation and scenic, National Park bushwalks and, of course, velvety wines.

History buffs will be drawn to a stone cairn which pays due tribute to explorer and navigator George Bass who sailed into Western Port in 1798.

The spectacular drive north-west along the Rosebud-Flinders Road takes you past the Navy"s gunnery range, The Pinnacles, The Blowhole and on to the historic Cape Schanck lighthouse and museum. The light has been warning ship"s crews of the treacherous rocks that line the cape since 1859.

A vehicular ferry runs daily between Sorrento, the gateway to the Point Nepean National Park, and Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula on the opposite side of the mouth of Port Phillip Bay.
