Boyup Brook

The peaceful town of Boyup Brook is situated on the Blackwood River, 269 kilometres south east of Perth. Located between the South West and Albany Highways, it provides an ideal opportunity to leave the hustle and bustle of city life and relax and enjoy the pretty scenery of the surrounding areas. Visitors are impressed with the clean and neat town set amongst the hills and the friendliness of the local people. Activities can be as varied as tackling the town walk, catching up with the district's history, or visiting renowned local artist, Sandy Chambers, the Carnaby Beetle and Butterfly collection, the Museum, Harvey Dickson's Country Music Centre and Roo Gully Wildlife Sanctuary. Visitors can also have a hit of golf or tennis, go swimming (summer) or canoeing and admire the wildflowers in spring. In past times, sheep and dairy farming and apple orchards were major contributors to Boyup Brook's settlement and wealth. However, in recent times, with modern machinery and the rich loamy soils, cropping of canola, wheat, barley and oats have become profitable and vineyards and olive groves are springing up. Other farms have been sold or leased for tree plantations. The annual Country Music festival in February, the Book Bonanza in May, Harvey Dickson's Rodeo and the Blackwood Marathon in October together with several other smaller events during the year, ensure there is always plenty to do and see. With Boyup Brook being discovered as a great place to retire in, the Shire's motto, モBoyup Brook and Country Choiceヤ is very appropriate.
