Windellama

South of Bungonia is the village of Windellama which hosts markets on the third Sunday of the month and comes alive in November each year for the Windellama Small Farms Field Day and Windellama Country Fair.

Windellama is a thriving rural community with an active Progress Association and Historical Society who operate a small museum housed in a replica building of the 1880s school.

This village lies at the boundary between the coastal and tablelands biological zones and it has many distinct species as a result. One of these is the tiny Wolgan Snow Gum, a eucalypt that only grows to about one metre tall in the poor white sandy soils. These little mallee shrubs are the survivors of the last Ice Age when this region was much drier. They are covered with a nectar rich mass of snowy white flowers that make it an ideal plant for small gardens.
