Lansdowne

On the banks of the Georges River about 25km south-west of Sydney, Landsdowne is home to the Mirambeena Regional Park and the adjoining Liverpool Golf Course, through both of which a gentle creek flows to reach the river at a popular picnic ground.

Just a kilometre or so away is the busy Bankstown Aerodrome, important to small planes and a lot of air freight traffic movement in and out of Sydney. The aerodrome, too, butts onto another golf course, Bankstown, which doesn't quite reach the river. But travel just another 500m or south along the riverbanks and, yes, you'll reach the East Hills Golf Course.

Lansdowne also boasts one of the most historic bridges in the Sydney metropolitan area. The Lansdowne Bridge, which carries Hume Highway traffic over Prospect Creek, was built in 1836 and is one of two Liverpool area bridges whose construction was supervised by the celebrated Scottish stonemason David Lennox who trained under the master English engineer, Thomas Telford. Lennox also had a strong hand in the building of the stone bridge at nearby Lapstone in 1833.
