Binjour

A small town off the Burnett Highway, Binjour lies in the heart of peanut country, about 20km north-west of Gaynda in the south-east Queensland hinterland.

A riverside nursery displays a wide range of roses and palms. Two nearby lookouts present sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

A short drive up Branch Creek Road opens up the panorama of the Binjour Plateau to the east and the Gurgeena Plateau to the south.

East of the township is the single-lane Mt Debatable Bridge which commands stunning views of the region's lifeblood, the Burnett River. The creek beneath the bridge is a popular fishing haunt for local anglers.

An unusual monument is set on the roadside between Binjour and the Orange Festival town of Gayndah. The cairn marks the spot where Katherina Krieger, a German migrant servant on Mt Debatable Station was brutally murdered in 1859. Her killer was never identified.
