Burrum

Burrum Heads defines the northern boundary of Hervey Bay and for many years it remained little more than a geographical feature. An improved road system to service the adjoining Burrum River National Park and the nearby Woodgate National Park has seen the village develop into a small resort destination in its own right.

Splendid fishing and good boating conditions are the base for its increasing popularity. The parks, too, are a lure for off-roaders, particularly Woodgate, whose 5490ha of mangroves, wallum heathland, eucalypt and angophora forests, tea-tree swamps and palm forests are a haven for a varied wildlife.

Burrum lures its share of nature photographers, bird-watchers and bush-walkers. You can occasionally catch sight of a dolphin or dugong from the beach, while loggerhead turtles use the warm sands to hatch their eggs during the November-March period.
