Berri

The commercial heart of South Australia's Riverlands, Berri is 235km north-east of Adelaide.

Once a refueling stop for Murray River paddle-steamers, the name Berri is now synonymous with fruit juice, canned fruit and wine.

Set in a sea of orchards and irrigated vineyards, Berri has much to offer the visitor. The town"s signature landmark is a typical Australian symbol, The Big Orange, which presides over the Riverland Display Centre.

The centre displays just about everything associated with the Riverland and more exotic exhibits such as the 35 immaculately presented vintage cars and motor-cycles, dolls, toys and aircraft.

Visitors are virtually obliged to make the pilgrimage to the Berri Estates Winery, which is the largest in Australia and probably bigger than any other vineyard in the southern hemisphere.

Five km north stands historic Wilabalangaloo Homestead and flora and fauna reserve. The National Trust-listed homestead is now a museum and the reserve is studded with riverside walking tracks.
