Glenreagh

Glenreagh is near the southern boundary of the Clarence Valley area, about 38 kilometres south of Grafton on the Orara Way. It is within the Orara Valley, alongside the tranquil Orara River. The village is overlooked by magnificent sandstone ranges, much of which is State Forest. The Orara River has the distinction of being one of the few coastal rivers in New South Wales to flow inland. It is some 30 kilometres in length and it joins the Clarence River at Ramornie. Historically a timber town, many of the original timber dwellings still exist and a number of buildings are heritage listed. The small community now has two antique stores for those looking for that special treasure from the past, art galleries displaying the unique talents of the local artisans, a memorial museum, and good-old fashioned country hotel and cafe making Glenreagh the perfect place to stop and explore when travelling between Grafton and Coffs Harbour along the Orara Way. Get on board for a step back in time to experience how rail journeys used to be on the fully restored 1919 engine. The Glenreagh Mountain Railway Inc. have purchased the Glenreagh to Ulong section of the Glenreagh to Dorrigo line and are presently clearing and re-sleepering the line ready for tourist operations. Currently short trips are available running at least once a month. The Glenreagh Markets are held on the first Saturday of the month at the Recreational Grounds.
