Goodna

Once a quiet staging post between Ipswich and Brisbane, Goodna has long been absorbed into the suburban spread of the two cities. Although it straddles the local government boundary, Goodna is part of Ipswich.

It is a typical, outer suburban community, and although it is widely associated with the Wacol Corrective Centre, there is more to Goodna than the presence of one of the state's most identifiable prisons.

Pride of the district's showplaces is the restored historic homestead Woolston House.

The times might be a-changing, but there is a constancy in Goodna in the form of the Royal Hotel. There has been a Royal in the town since the 1860s when the main road between Brisbane and Ipswich passed through the village.

The present Royal, which is not on the same site as its original namesake, was built in 1894.

The sights and sounds of Brisbane, the fascinating heritage of Ipswich, and the beaches and theme parks of the Gold Coast are all within comfortable driving distance.
