Toowong

Nestled between the Brisbane River and the magnificent open areas, gardens and walking tracks of Mt Coot-tha Park, Toowong is only minutes from the centre of Brisbane. Despite its rapid growth in recent years, Brisbane remains a delightful city whose charms have been enhanced by the dedication of the South Bank Parkland. Created on the site of the immensely-successful Expo 88, the park is an absorbing complex that embraces a sandy beach, rainforest pockets, restaurants, fauna displays, pubs, library, art gallery and performing arts centre. Mr Coot-tha is truly a park for all, no matter whether your interest is centred on bush-walking, sub-tropical flowers and plants, the stars, Aboriginal culture, panoramic views or simply lolling about in the fresh air. Mt Coot-tha itself rises to 244m and one of Brisbane's most absorbing cemetries nestles at its base. Toowong Cemetery is distinguished by the remarkable Temple of Peace near the Frederick Street entrance. The temple was designed and built by Richard Ramo in memory of his sons who were slain in World War I.
