Gold Coast (Coolangatta)

Graced with magnificent ocean beaches, Coolangatta was the pacesetter in the Gold Coast's drive to international resort pre-eminence.

In fact, third generation members of families which have made the border town a holiday mecca still return. "Camp city", however, has long been replaced by motels and holiday units as the old town has been absorbed into the Gold Coast tourist network.

But, despite the daylight saving differences, Coolangatta retains its historic links with its twin city on the NSW side of the border, Tweed Heads. Indeed, Coolangatta offers the best of all tourist worlds - superb surf, the lure of the Gold Coast, and the tranquility of the Tweed Valley and rainforest hinterland.

The coast-hugging walkway round the bluff above Rainbow Bay presents magnificent views of the ocean and the Tweed River mouth, and skirts the Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse on Point Danger.

The outdoor recreations of surfing, swimming, fishing, bowls and golf dominate the Coolangatta-Tweed Heads lifestyle.
