Palm Beach

Palm Beach is located just to the north of Currumbin Creek, and is one of the less-developed spots along the perenially popular Gold Coast strip. The surf here is excellent, as is the fishing, particularly in winter.

The boardwalk with its tables and chairs and the Andy Frizzell Park are both good lunch and picnic spots, and the track from Palm Beach to Burleigh Head National Park to the north is a scenic way to explore the coast.

Nearby Currumbin overlooks the mouth of Currumbin Creek, a prime still-water swimming and fishing spot, and is a serene haven in the heart of the vibrant Gold Coast.

The suburb of Currumbin takes its name from the local Aboriginal word for pine tree, which is quite apt, as Currumbin remains one of the most heavily-wooded areas on the coast.

Much of the greenery is preserved in the 20 hectare Currumbin Sanctuary, a National Trust park where animals range free and visitors can admire the beauty of native birds in the walk-through rainforest aviary. Clouds of wild but camera-conscious parrots, mainly lorikeets and rosellas, descend on the park at "feed time".

Currumbin is within comfortable driving distance of Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Jupiters Casino and the Gold Coast"s major restaurant and theme park trail. Fishing enthusiasts can test their skills on the surf beaches, on the off-shore reefs or in the Tweed and Nerang rivers and estuary systems.
