Hope Island

While the constraints of receivership might have slowed the pace since those heady days when flamboyant and imaginative developer Mike Gore persuaded megastars Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston to open his international resort in 1988, Sanctuary Cove on Hope Island retains much of its allure.

Built on a mangrove swamp on the Coomera River on the northern end of the Gold Coast tourist strip, the Cove embraces a world-class marina, a quaint marine village, a boutique brewery, five-star resort hotel, an array of restaurants offering a wide choice of cuisine and two, 18-hole golf courses. The Palms is a public course on Hope Island, but the Arnold Palmer-designed The Pines is open only to members and their guests.

Street theatre and entertainment enlivens Sanctuary Cove weekends. The Cove has direct access to the Coomera River and the Broadwater, a protected sweep of turquoise, safe boating water which stretches from Southport on the Gold Coast to Moreton Bay and Brisbane.
