Queens Beach

About 4km north-east of Bowen, Queens Beach is a popular swimming spot for locals and visitors alike. The beach"s calm waters are netted to keep out the deadly stingers, and there are BBQs dotted along the beachfront - perfect for a sizzle on a sultry summer evening.

In winter, the weather here is superb, and it is just another attribute that lures fisherfolk from far and wide to cast into the sea in search of the beautiful whiting which school in abundance along the stretches of Queens Beach. The reef varieties which abound off Bowen also include sweetlip, coral trout and red emperor.

Every September, in fact, Bowen hosts one of Australia"s richest fishing events, the Family Fishing Classic which offers prizes worth more than $70,000 to anglers of all ages.

Fishing, however, is a bonus in a delightful, tropical coastal town whose relaxed, friendly lifestyle is the essence of Bowen"s charm. Queens is just one in a chain of secluded, uncluttered beaches which make bays such as Horseshoe, Murray, Greys and Rose so memorable.
