Dunk Island

Dunk Island lies 4km offshore from Mission Beach, some 160km north of Townsville and 120km south of Cairns. It is part of the Family Group of islands, which also includes another resort island, Bedarra.

The island was inhabited by Edmund Banfield, author of in the first part of the last century and it was Banfield who was instrumental in ensuring the Dunk Island rainforest was protected by a national park. He later wrote a book Confessions of a Beachcomber.

Today, part of the island is a resort, where guests can explore the rainforest in the National Park on foot or on horseback, play tennis, squash or golf or indulge in many water sport options. Day trippers arriving by boat from Mission Beach are also catered for.
