Lenswood

Nestled in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, the small village of Lenswood is central to all the tourist traps in this semi-rural, tranquil corner of the Festival City.

Lenswood is at the seat of the Onkaparinga Valley which offers the visitor some of the most stunning scenery in the Adelaide Hills. It is an area of rolling vineyards, blocks of apple and cherry orchards, lush farms and quaint towns.

Food and wine are the staples of life round Lenswood, where roadside vendors peddle apples and other produce and you can tap into the nectar of the local grapes in a string of tasting rooms.

One of the larger Hills towns, Lobethal and the nearby Dairyland Village and Onkaparinga Enterprise Centre lie just to the north-east, while a sweep to the south-west takes you to Heritage Park and Melba's Chocolate Factory and on to Woodside, Oakbank and Hahndorf.

Thousands of German migrants - many of them refugees from religious persecution - flocked into South Australia in the mid-19th century and no township preserves their heritage more faithfully than Hahndorf which reflects a distinctive slice of mid-European culture in the heavily wooded Adelaide Hills.
