Bute

Taking its name from an island in the Firth of Clyde in Scotland, Bute is 142km from Adelaide and is located about halfway between Port Wakefield and Port Broughton which are situated on opposite sides of the shoulder of Yorke Peninsula.

Today Bute is a service centre for local primary producers. It has long been a stopover for travellers and the traditional spirit of hospitality is maintained with well-appointed picnic areas in the Railway Reserve park in the centre of town.

Travellers looking for a spot to break their trip can do no better than pull into the fauna park on the Bute fringe. The fauna reserve is equipped with barbecues and picnic facilities.

It is a only a half hour drive from Bute to the seaside resort towns, beaches and rich fishing grounds of Port Broughton, Port Wakefield and Wallaroo and Tickera Bay where the locals claim the best crabbing beaches in the country.
