Snowtown

Today Snowtown is the main service centre for the other smaller townships in the vicinity, being Brinkworth and Lochiel. It's home to artists Marek and Anna Herburt who have a small gallery. Originally from Poland, Marek is known for his prize-winnning abstract works. A district noted for its quality stock breeding, fat lambs, wool and wheat, Snowtown's agricultural background began in the 1840s as the early settlers ventured northwards seeking pastures for their flock. Snowtown was named in 1878 by the then Governor of South Australia FD Jervois, to perpetuate the name of his secretary Thomas Snow.
