Bell Post Hill

The Geelong suburb of Bell Post Hill is about 5km from the bustling waterfront that defines this big provincial city - the second largest in Victoria - which lies on Corio Bay, south-west of Melbourne.

Bell Post Hill was at the hub of the wool trading district that for so many years drove this vibrant city which has long been one of the state"s key commercial centres.

The suburb, in fact, remains home to the National Wool Centre and Museum. The museum, which is housed in an 1872 bluestone building that was the model for so many Australian wool stores, features displays where you see and hear the history of Australian wool and track the fibre from the sheep"s back to its transformation into high fashion garments.

A few blocks to the north you will come to another of Geelong"s 100 National Trust-listed buildings, Osbourne House, a colonial mansion which was converted to a naval college many years ago and now contains the Naval and Maritime Museum.
