Drumcondra

Bound by Corio Bay and parkland, the inner Geelong suburb of Drumcondra is within comfortable walking distance of the heart of Victoria's second largest city's magical waterfront.

The waterfront walk, in fact, starts from the Maritime and Naval Museum on Drumcondra's northern parkland border, tracks south past Rippleside Pier and park and the Steampacket Quay to the famous art-deco Eastern Beach pool and Botanic Gardens and on to Limeburners Point.

Along the way you can introduce yourself to Geelong's striking bollards sculpted and painted by Jan Mitchell, depicting local colourful charcters.

It is the perfect stroll to work up an appetite and you can satisfy every taste at the waterfront's array of restaurants where the cuisine ranges from the obligatory seafood to French a la carte to snacks.

Victoria"s second largest city behind the capital of Melbourne, Geelong"s population is pushing 185,000 and stands at the northern doorstep of the Great Ocean Road and its peerless sea and bushscapes. The road also flanks some of the most challenging surf beaches in the world.
