Drysdale

On Bellarine Peninsula, about 30km east of Geelong, Drysdale functions primarily as a service centre for the quite intensive local farming community.

This is a beautiful and scenic place with some notable historic buildings, including the Old Courthouse Museum and Drysdale Community Arts.

You can take a ride on the Bellarine Peninsula Railway to Queenscliff and then hitch a ferry ride across the entrance of Port Phillip Bay to Portsea and Sorrento on the western tip of the Mornington Peninsula.

The town takes its name from Anne Drysdale, regarded as Victoria"s first female squatter who set up Coriyule Station with her partner, Caroline Newcomb, in 1843. The sandstone Coriyule homestead is still standing and is the oldest surviving building on the peninsula.

The road between Drysdale and Portarlington is littered with vineyards and you can dine regally on freshly caught fish washed down with a mellow chardonnay at Kilgour Estate.

Drysdale is within comfortable distance of several surfing and swimming beaches, while fish abound in the bay and ocean.
