Towradgi

The beachside suburb of Towradgi lies just north of the Wollongong CBD. Towradgi has a lovely 3km of gently-curving, broad, golden sands, stretching from Towradgi Creek in the north to a southern estuary formed by the confluence of Cabbage Tree Creek and Fairy Creek (or, Para Creek, as some people call it). The combination of estuaries and surf, of course, means that fishermen are on a win to nothing. The beach itself is backed by a couple of nice parks - perfect for a picnic or just the place to toss that freshly-caught flathead on the barbie. Just to the south of Towradgi is the spectacular Bulli Pass which winds up the steep Illawarra Escarpment, at the top of which are some of the most arresting coastal views in NSW. A little further south and you're in the CBD of Wollongong, NSW's third largest city - an industrial giant of a place with an important shipping terminal at Port Kembla. And, by taking the Macquarie Pass – another way up the Illawarra Escarpment, just south of Wollongong – you'll have access to the delightful Southern Highlands region, and such historic towns as Robertson, Mittagong, Moss Vale and Bowral.
