Anglesea

A vital link in the Great Ocean Road chain of seaside towns which adorn the Bass Strait coastline, Anglesea is 110km south-west of Melbourne. The town is beautifully framed between the ocean and the Otway Ranges and offers safe swimming, challenging surfing and delightful walking trails through the Angahook-Lorne State Park and the Coogoorah Park bushland reserve.

Plan your visit for September and you can take guided wildflower tours of the bush which are a feature of the annual Angair Festival. The local golf course, too, presents a singular challenge with the natural hazards including tame kangaroos.

Anglesea is an increasingly popular holiday resort and the peak summer season sees the population balloon from 2,000 to more than 15,000. Many of those summer visitors are drawn by the annual New Year"s Day regatta which is distinguished by the Anglesea River sailpast of 100-year-old craft.
