Simpson

Simpson is a small town lying in western districts dairy country about halfway between Colac and the coastal fishing resort of Port Campbell.

Colac is a large commercial centre on Lake Colac to the north, while Port Campbell is a sleepily attractive fishing village set on a natural gorge at the mouth of Campbells Creek.

Two hundred and eighty kilometres south-west along the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne, Port Campbell, which was named after Captain Alexander Campbell - the last of the mid-19th century 'buccaneers' - is within half an hour of such attractions as the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge.

For a direct contrast in scenery, you will find Carlisle State Park about 30km east of Simpson. Embracing 5600ha of heathland, woodlands and Otway wet forests, Carlisle Park's diverse natural values, broad vistas and sense of remoteness attract nature-lovers, bush-walkers, horse-riders, 4WD bush-bashers and cyclists.
