Walkaway

Walkaway is a 25 minute drive inland from Geraldton and a five hour drive north of Perth. Visit the Walkaway Station Museum, housed in the old railway station building in the small community of Walkaway. It has an excellent display of regional transport, natural resources, weapons and military relics. It also features family history pertaining to the local pioneering families. It is a must for rail buffs and those tracing the history of the area. Ellendale Pool is 20 kilometres from Walkaway, this lovely natural pool laps at the foot of impressive river cliffs and is surrounded by tall shady trees. It makes a lovely spot for a picnic, barbecue or bird watching. High in the cliff face you may see nesting peregrine falcons that inhabit this area. The Alinta Wind farm is also located near Walkaway. This wind farm will be by far the largest renewable energy generator in Western Australia, capable of powering the equivalent of 60,000 homes or in broad terms, all the power consumed by Geraldton. There is a car park, viewing platform and visitor's area located on Nangetty-Walkaway Road to cater for the tourists visiting the farm with its 54 Vestas 1.65 Megawatt Wind Turbines. Gas barbecues, picnic tables, toilets and children's play equipment are available to visitors. Camping is available for a voluntary overnight fee.
