Brisbane City Centre: Activities
Brisbane is blessed with fantastic weather year round, perfect for enjoying the great outdoors. Make the most of the Brisbane River and its surrounds at Riverlife Adventure Centre. Situated at Kangaroo Point, the centre offers a range of activities including kayaking, abseiling, rock climbing and rollerblading. Take a leisurely stroll along RiverWalk, a
pedestrian walkway which connects parks and bikeways along the river or cycle along the 20 kilometres of inner city bikeway tracks. Adventure lovers can enjoy magical views of the city and abseil down the cliffs at Kangaroo Point or climb the Story Bridge, one of three such experiences in the world. Enjoy a picnic at Roma Street Parklands, New Farm Park or the City Botanic Gardens, take a refreshing swim at South Bank’s lagoon or see a movie at an outdoor cinema (seasonal). Whatever outdoor activity you desire, you’ll find it all in Brisbane!
Brisbane City Centre: Events
Brisbane plays host to a wide range of events that will excite and inspire – sporting events, international film festivals, big name Broadway shows and music festivals. Riverfestival is Brisbane’s major annual festival, focusing on the city's signature natural landmark, the Brisbane River. The highlight of the festival is Riverfire – a breathtaking display of fireworks and a ‘dump and burn’ from the RAAF strike jets at its finale. Brisbane’s cultural precinct is located in South Brisbane, where you’ll find the Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Museum, GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art) and the Performing Arts Complex.

Brisbane’s retail scene gets bigger and better every year. Queen Street Mall is the centre of city shopping with over 700 specialty stores including six centres. QueensPlaza is the latest mall development with Tiffany’s, Louis Vuitton, Mecca Cosmetica and more. For the very latest in local fashions and edgy urban styles head to Fortitude Valley. Here you’ll also find the exclusive Emporium – a lively shopping, dining and lifestyle precinct. Explore James Street in New Farm, a hot spot for homewares and fashion including Sass and Bide, Scanlan and Theodore and Little Joe.
For factory outlet shopping head to DFO, one of Brisbane’s newest and biggest outlet superstores, located a short distance from Brisbane Airport and now at Jindalee. For fresh local produce, don’t miss the Farmer’s Markets at the Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm Park, held on alternate Saturdays each month. For unique gifts and local handiwork, the weekend markets at South Bank, Riverside or Brunswick Street Mall are not to be missed.

Brisbane has an ever growing exciting culinary scene and is filled with award winning restaurants, alfresco cafés and funky bars. The inner city has evolved into an upmarket and modern dining precinct with many top restaurants
including Restaurant Two, Gianni and e’cco Bistro, or head to Eagle Street Pier for a choice of modern and award winning dining. For cheap eats and ethnic cuisine, head to West End or Chinatown in Fortitude Valley. James Street in New Farm, and the Emporium and Brunswick Street in Fortitude Valley offer a great selection of funky bars, cafés and trendy restaurants including Isis Brasserie. Watt Modern Dining has one of the best riverfront locations, situated next to New Farm Park or head to South Bank for a great range of dining options.

What to Bring
Most Queenslanders dress informally, although reasonable dress standards are maintained in restaurants, hotels and bars. Lightweight clothing is suitable all year round, however bring something warm to slip on, as the temperature drops at night during winter. To ensure adequate protection from the sun we suggest you bring a broad-brimmed hat, SPF 30+ sunscreen, sunglasses and a long sleeved shirt with a collar.
