Morningside

The name of Morningside was bestowed upon this inner eastern suburb of Brisbane when its homes did catch the first rays of the rising sun. The spread of Brisbane has meant that the sun no longer rises first over Morningside, but the suburb retains much of the character of early settlement. Residential development really began in 1888 when Morningside's first laird, David Longland, subdivided his large estate into blocks of 400sqm which sold for between $60 and $80. Morningside is only 5km from the centre of Brisbane. Flanked by Cairncross and the Fish Markets, Colmsie Reserve is a popular, 6ha riverside park with a wealth of children's play and sports facilities, BBQs, a boat ramp and a 41m pontoon hugging the south bank on the Quarries Reach of the Brisbane River.
