Samford

A 20-minutes' drive north-west of Brisbane, Samford lies in a rural setting in the South Pine River valley on Brisbane's northern fringe.

The quiet little town sits on the skirts of the huge Brisbane Forest Park - more than 26,500ha enclosing 16 separate recreation areas. This beautiful park is a favourite of bush walkers, serious back-country hikers, bird lovers and picnickers. The wide variety of habitat provides a sanctuary for a broad range of native wildlife.

Samford State Forest is nearby, and the more adventurous can try grass skiing at the Samford Alpine Adventureland.

Samford and Dayboro, which lie on either side of Lake Samsonvale, are charming, historic towns admired for their arts and crafts galleries, museums and eating houses. The well-stocked waters of the lake attract fishermen and waterfowl, which, in turn, lure bird-watchers. Picturesque shoreline settings at Bullocky Reserve, MacGavin View, Harrison Pocket and Forgan Cove are popular among picnickers.
