Woodford
This D'Aguilar Highway town to the west of the Glass House Mountains was built on the timber industry, but over the years local producers have diversified into both traditional and exotic forms of farming. Today dairy and beef herds graze cheek by jowl with emus, ostriches and alpacas, while pineapples, grapes, herbs and bananas grow alongside crayfish ponds.
Cottage industries add to the town's charms and, of course, for many years Woodford has attracted tens of thousands of visitors over the summer to the annual Folk Festival. The festival, which runs from December 27 to January 1, boasts more than 3000 performers who strut their stuff in 400 acts spread through 25 venues.
Visitors to the festival can also catch up on some steam history at the Australian Narrow"s Gauge Railway Society"s museum which operates the Durundur Railway during the folk celebration and on most Sundays.
Settlement was pioneered in 1841 by the nine remarkable Archer brothers, and the family moniker is enshrined in the name of the main street.
