Bell
The town of Bell lies almost midway between Dalby and Kingaroy at the western gateway to the rainforests of the unique Bunya Mountains National Park.
It is a handy jumping off point for visits to the nearby Rimfire Winery, historic Jimbour House and sorties into the park, which takes its name from its signature tree, the bunya pine.
A species of Araucaria, the bunya dates back 65 million years to a prehistoric time when Australia was still part of the megacontinent of Gondwana. The rugby-ball sized bunya cone has long been prized by Aborigines who gathered in the mountains during the harvest season to feast ceremoniously on the ancient tree"s highly-nutritious fruit.
Nearby Kingaroy is both the peanut and naval bean capital of Australia. The naval, of course, is the preferred lentil of baked bean canneries.
