Crows Nest

Forty-five kilometres north along the New England Highway from Toowoomba, Crow's Nest is the centre of a shire of the same name which promotes itself as "Queensland's Day Tripper's Paradise".

Visit majestic Argyle Homestead where you can browse among arts, crafts and antiques, relax over a coffee, and learn that the name Crow's Nest came not from a bird, but from a Kabi-Kabi Aboriginal, Jimmy Crow, who was reputed to have lived in a hollow in a tree which once grew on the site where the police station now stands.

Ravensbourne National Park protects one of the last remaining stands of the rainforest which once blanketed the region, while the Crows Nest Falls National Park is famous for spectacular wildflower displays in spring and summer.

One of the major features of the Crows Nest park is Crows Nest Creek which runs through the intriguingly named Valley of Diamonds.
