Braybrook

The City of Maribyrnong is located west of central Melbourne, closely bordering the Melbourne docklands area. It has a population of almost 60,000 people with about 44 per cent of the population born overseas, and offers a culturally diverse experience of eating, shopping and entertainment.

The suburb of Braybrook has an industrial past, although more recently gentrification has seen former factory sites developed for housing.

Nearby Footscray is the home of the Western Bulldogs AFL football team. Natural features of the area include the Maribyrnong River Valley which is sprinkled with wharves, recreation trails, a golf course, an arts centre, wildlife, sports grounds and a range of parks which embrace 230 hectares of open space.

Centrepiece in the parkland is Footscray Park, a Victorian Heritage registered park which won a design award for landscape architect Rodney Alsop in 1911. Acknowledged as the most complete Edwardian public garden in Victoria, Footscray Park offers visitors the chance to learn about plants and period design, to kick a footy ball, feed the ducks, dangle a fishing line in the Maribyrnong River or relax over a picnic or barbecue lunch.
