Bass

The town is named after the famed explorer, George Bass, who reached and named Westernport Bay in 1798. It can be found about 109 km south-east of Melbourne along the Princes Highway en route to Phillip Island.

Bass is a quiet attractive town that services the local beef cattle farms and has a general store and pleasant picnic area at George Bass Park next to the Bass River.

One of the town"s main attractions is the Wildlife Wonderland park which houses the Giant Earthworm Museum. Gippsland is famous for its giant earthworms - up to three metres long - and the museum celebrates them with displays, a marine worm tank and simulated worm burrow.
