Leongatha is an important social and agricultural centre set in the gently rolling hills of South Gippsland. It is recognised as the regional cultural capital and hosts a wide range of events and festivals during the year.

Leongatha is home to Murray Goulburn, the largest co-operative dairy company in the southern hemisphere, and its tourist attractions include the Firelight Museum, the Leongatha Art and Craft Gallery, Mushroom Crafts and the Great Southern Rail Trail.

It is a comfortable base for forays into the Wilsons Promontory National Park and the ruggedly beautiful reserve"s peerless swimming and fishing beaches.
