Reservoir

Named for its importance in providing the vital link in a reliable, 19th century water service for the rapidly developing city of Melbourne, the modern, residential suburb of Reservoir is part of the inner metropolitan municipality of Darebin.

Although the municipality to the north of the CBD has seen its share of industry and commerce, modern Darebin is notable for its parks and reserves, some of which have been developed on old tip and quarry sites.

Pride of the city is Bundoora Park which is set on 180ha of bushland adjoining Darebin Creek and embraces Mt Cooper, whose peak, at 137m, is the highest point in the Melbourne metropolitan area. The park also includes a hands-on urban farm, historic village and fauna reserve.

The municipality"s chain of reserves and open space also include Darebin Parklands (33ha), the Ray Bramham Gardens and Edwardes Lake.

With more than one-third of its 132,000 residents born overseas, Darebin is a cosmopolitan community which obviously enjoys a good knees-up. The municipality celebrates a number of annual festivals including the Darebin Festival, the Great Music Expo and the Festival of Kites.
