Cammeray

Cammeray is a delightful garden suburb of Sydney whose parks and the Long Bay reach of Middle Harbour strike a dramatic contrast to the concrete and glass towers, shops and offices of neighbouring Crows Nest and North Sydney.

The green belt heart of the suburb is formed by the Cammeray golf course and Tunks Park which extends under the extraordinary Suspension Bridge to a bayside boat ramp.

The turreted and arched sandstone bridge was built in the 1880s to cash in on a land boom to sell blocks on a new development on the northern side of a natural gorge. The boom became a bust and for 20 years it was a bridge to nowhere until a tram link revived land sales.

Today the once despised Northbridge is one of the prime Middle Harbour suburbs where the value of the smallest blocks of land starts at $1 million.

Both Crows Nest and North Sydney boast comprehensive shopping precincts and a wide range of restaurants offering virtually every possible combination of ethnic cuisine.
