Forestville

Forestville is a pleasant, hilltop suburb of Sydney, bound to the east and west by bushland and to the south by Middle Harbour - a magnificent waterway which stretches from the Ku-ring-gai Chase to join Sydney Harbour at Clontarf, just a few kilometres from the heads.

It is a scenic area of Sydney that abounds with tranquil harbourside walking tracks. Many of the walking trails lace the 2203ha Garigal National Park which protects a large tract of bush and sandstone.

The Davidson picnic area on the shores of Middle Harbour is a popular corner of the park, particularly with boaties and anglers.

Forestville is also just a short drive from the very popular picnic and recreational reserve which protects Manly Reservoir. From here, it is only a short, downhill run to the world famous chain of beaches which adorn the coast from Manly north to Barrenjoey Heads on the entrance to Broken Bay.

Forestville is home to the NSW Wildlife Information and Rescue Service"s headquarters and main veterinary hospital. Every year, WIRES rescues more than 50,000 native animals, ranging from terrified koalas to distressed penguins. The most regular patients include ringtail and brush-tailed possums, rainbow lorikeets and currawongs, most of which have come off second best in brushes with cats or motor vehicles.
