A sylvan suburb on Sydney"s prestigious North Shore, Killara is graced by substantial, tree-screened homes and a distinctive air of tranquillity. Indeed it is one of the more select precincts in the Ku-ring-gai Shire, where more than 95 per cent of the housing stock is zoned low-density residential.

Major roads and a frequent train and bus service give rapid and comfortable access to the city and the large shopping centres and restaurant belts of the North Shore.

The area is well-endowed with natural attractions including Sydney"s famous northern beaches, Middle Harbour, the bush and waterways of Garigal National Park, Ku-ring-gai Chase and Lane Cove River National Park.

Closer to home, there is a wealth of golf courses and expansive reserves and parks just made for gentle bush-walks. In fact, more than one-third of Ku-ring-gai shire is reserved bush or parkland.

You can pick up some useful tips on how best you can enjoy the local parkland with a visit to the Education Centre in the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Gardens off Mona Vale Road at St Ives. The 123ha gardens host an annual Festival of Wildflowers in spring, usually in late August.
