Harbord

One of the older suburbs on Sydney's northern beaches, Harbord is central to the sporting, recreational and social activities on the Manly-Warringah peninsula.

Harbord fronts on to Curl Curl and Freshwater surfing beaches and its northern and southern boundaries are defined by Curl Curl Lagoon and Manly Lagoon, with their reserves.

Both surf beaches boast protected saltwater swimming pools and there are two golf courses within walking distance.

Harbord and its beach, Freshwater, were assured of a premier niche in Australian surf history in 1914 when the famous Hawaiian surfer and swimmer, Duke Kahanamoku, rode the local waves on a board shaped to his personal specifications by a Sydney woodturner.

A brisk stroll also takes you to Manly's world-class restaurants, Marineland and another string of beaches. From Manly, depending on your fitness, you can walk or drive up the hill to the eastern fringe of Sydney Harbour National Park and North Head with its magnificent ocean views.
