Beenleigh

Built on sugar and Australia's oldest rum distillery, Beenleigh began as a town on the Logan River in its own right in the 1860s, but the population explosion in south-east Queensland in the 1980s and 90s saw it engulfed by Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Despite the encroachment, Beenleigh retains much of its distinctive character and its position makes it a convenient base for travellers to make day excursions to Brisbane or to the Gold Coast's northern theme parks - Dreamworld, Movie World, Wet n' Wild and Le Mans Grand Prix.

The Historical Village is a time capsule which transports visitors to a rich, rollicking past, while the Logan River gives boating access to the Broadwater and Moreton Bay. Houseboats, in which you can explore the sheltered waters of the Broadwater from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, can be hired at Jacobs Well, regarded as the southern gateway to the Moreton Bay Marine Park.
