Corinda
Corinda might share its name with pioneer beef baron and early Brisbane River bank settler Arthur Palmer's central Queensland cattle station, but no name is etched deeper in the soil of this southern city suburb than Francis.
When Arthur Morley Francis, who migrated from England with his wife Angela to take up land near Corinda in 1860, died in 1892, he was buried on the property.
The small graveyard, in which several members of the family and friends were subsequently buried, was on land known to the Francis family as God"s Acre.
The property and the graves were eventually ceded to the Brisbane City Council which has maintained Francis Outlook Park in its original condition. The park presents sweeping views over the Brisbane River and beyond across Fig Tree Pocket to the Pinjarra Hills.
Brisbane River forms Corinda"s western boundary, while its western flank is also guarded by a waterway, Oxley Creek.
