Springwood
A Logan City suburb in the south-east of the greater Brisbane area, Springwood is flanked on the west by the expressway to the Gold Coast and by Daisy Hill State Forest to the east.
Rated as Queensland's most popular state forest, Daisy Hill's 435ha of open, eucalypt bushland is honeycombed with horse-riding and mountain bike trails, walking tracks and a picnic reserve.
Managed by the Queensland Government"s Department of Natural Resources, the forest park is rich in native flora and fauna and supports a large koala population. The park also hosts the Daisy Hill Koala Centre which serves primarily as a hospital, nursing sick, injured or orphaned koalas back to health before returning the bear-like marsupials to their natural habitat. It is also an educational facility offering comprehensive background information on koalas and other animals of the forest.
On the southern fringe of Springwood, Slacks Creek Environmental Park conserves a melaleuca wetland which is traversed by a public boardwalk. Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Redland Bay are all within comfortable driving distance.
