Chester Hill

A suburb within the Bankstown district - a full-on city within a city - Chester Hill is just a 15 kilometre or 40-minute drive on the M5 motorway from the heart of Sydney.

Bankstown municipality is a truly multicultural community and the fact that 48 per cent of its 160,000 residents can fluently speak a language other than English is reflected in the city's broad range of ethnic restaurants.

Bankstown is also home to Sydney's second largest airport, a multi-strand hospital, a wide selection of educational institutions, including a university campus, and one of the largest shopping centres in Sydney, Bankstown Square.

Chester Hill was still under cultivation by market gardeners and orchardists until the arrival of the railway line in the early 1920s sparked residential and industrial development. The name of Chester Hill came with the arrival of the railway in 1924, courtesy of the authorities who had earlier rejected Hillcrest and Hillchester.
