Mount Pritchard

In Sydney's outer-west, about 30km from the CBD, Mount pritchard these days is a densely-populated suburb with wide cultural diversity, which is reflected in the many ethnic restaurants, clubs and stores which have sprung up in the region, especially over the past two decades. After World War II, many migrants and refugees fleeing worn-torn Europe settled out this way and it wasn't long before the small farms and market gardens gave way to housing estates.

The Vietnam conflict which raged from 1961-1975 brought a new wave of refugees to the district, and it has been this influence that has been most deeply felt in recent times. To its east and south, Mt Pritchard is flanked by an expansive green belt that straddles the Cabramatta Creek.

The passive and recreational reserve land embraces the Cabramatta and Orange Grove golf links and a chain of parks stretching several kilometres to the south-west. The parkland includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool named for Michael Wenden, gold medallist in the l00 and 200 metres freestyle at the Mexico City Olympic Games in 1968.
